Golden Nugget, Las Vegas Description

Classic Vegas glamour with modern updates at downtown's leading luxury hotel – Opened in the 1940s, millions in renovations have kept this the leading luxury hotel in downtown, winner of 31 AAA 4-Diamond Awards in as many years. Passing on the over-the-top motifs of The Strip, it favors classic Vegas glamour, but displays plenty of Sin City excess of its own, with a 45,000-square-ft casino, combination swimming pool/shark tank, and the 61-lb. gold nugget in the lobby.

Accommodations: Two towers house the guest rooms and suites. Rooms in the North Tower are closer to the casino. TIP: Odd-numbered rooms overlook Fremont Street; even-numbered rooms are quieter. The South Tower is closer to the pool. All have 1 king or 2 double beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, sitting areas, desks, and spacious marble baths. Amenities include 42" plasma-screen TVs, phones, high-speed internet, hairdryers, irons/ironing boards, in-room safes, and all the other basics. The 16th and 17th floor Gold Club Rooms have a more modern look and feel. Guests here have access to an exclusive VIP lounge, as do guests staying in the 1-bedroom Parlor Suites, and the 2-floor Spa Suites (which have large whirlpool tubs).

Dining & Entertainment: Vic & Anthony's serves gourmet steakhouse fare and seafood in a white-linen setting. Grotto is an Italian restaurant, with a classy menu and a bar and pizza oven that stays open late. The menu at the stylish Lillie's Noodle House includes a variety of Asian cuisine. There's also a sushi bar, the 24-hour Carson Street Cafe, a buffet, a Starbucks, and The Grille, which serves burgers, salads, pizza, and other informal fare. The casino bar and International Beer Bar are open round-the-clock. The Dive Bar is next to the shark tank, and is open till 2:00am. Rush Lounge and the Gold Diggers nightclub are popular nightspots. The expansive casino has hundreds of slot machines, classics like blackjack and craps, and new trends like 3-Card Poker and "Let it Ride." Productions, plays, and comedy acts take place in the 600-seat showroom.

Recreation: The pool is rated as one of the best in Vegas, and the main attraction is The Tank, a shark aquarium that lets you get an up-close, underwater look at the ocean's predators from the safety of chlorinated waters and a 30-foot tube waterslide. There's also a spa, onsite shopping, an arcade for the kids, and many other tours and attractions to be enjoyed throughout Las Vegas.
